Anesthesia refers to the practice of blocking the feeling of pain to allow medical and surgical procedures to be undertaken without pain.

Rutuku centre – changing lifes

Josephine has twin daughters, and must walk over one hour each morning to reach the tea plantation where she works. She used to wake up early to cook for her children and wash them, but with the tea plantation's newest day care centre, she saves time and has a safe, stimulating place for her daughters while she works.

Plantations can be unsafe for children. Mothers cannot bring them to work to breastfeed or ensure they receive well balanced meals. Leaving them back would mean leaving them in the area surrounding the plantation with no one to take care of them; or leaving them at home with older siblings who in turn must forfeit going to school.
